Your support helps us to tell the story
From reproductive rights to climate change to Big Tech, The Independent is on the ground when the story is developing. Whether it's investigating the financials of Elon Musk's pro-Trump PAC or producing our latest documentary, 'The A Word', which shines a light on the American women fighting for reproductive rights, we know how important it is to parse out the facts from the messaging.
At such a critical moment in US history, we need reporters on the ground. Your donation allows us to keep sending journalists to speak to both sides of the story.
The Independent is trusted by Americans across the entire political spectrum. And unlike many other quality news outlets, we choose not to lock Americans out of our reporting and analysis with paywalls. We believe quality journalism should be available to everyone, paid for by those who can afford it.

Barcelona are believed to be leading the chase for the 24-year-old, but Vertonghen's agent Mustapha Nakhli says a number of teams are monitoring the defender.
"Several teams are interested in Jan," he told Belgian newspaper Het Nieuwsblad. "I cannot confirm or deny whether Barcelona are one of them.
"Tottenham is not a small club. It’s too soon to give them an answer. We'll have to see"
Vertonghen played in all five of Belgium's World Cup matches at left back, but is better in the centre.
He still has two years to run on his deal at White Hart Lane, where he has grown to become one of the best defenders in the Premier League.
Signed in 2012 from Ajax, Vertonghen had a brilliant debut season and was voted into the Team of the Year.
However, speaking back in February, Vertonghen hinted he may leave Spurs if they failed to qualify for the Champions League.
He said: "Do I have a decision to make if we don't [get into the Champions League]? I can't say anything about that. Let's see after the end of the season, after the World Cup."
