28-year-old Cavani has had to play second-fiddle to Zlatan Ibrahimovic during his time at PSG, with the Sweden international playing in a lone striker role with Cavani shifted out wide. Despite scoring 13 goals in 24 appearances for the Parisians this season, Cavani is growing increasingly unhappy and Blanc has spoken out to confirm a meeting was held to discuss his future at the club.
Both Arsenal and United have been linked with Cavani over the past year and news of his disgruntlement in the French capital will be music to their ears, with both Premier League clubs looking to reinforce their attack should the right move become available.
Speaking to the media on Wednesday, Blanc said: “There is a problem with Cavani’s behaviour but my job is to think of the entire squad as a collective.
“We did hold a staff meeting and among the various issues we discussed were Cavani and his complaints.
“The desires of the individual can’t affect the rest of the team.
“I believe that he can score here but I understand if he wants to consider other career opportunities.”
Arsenal manager Arsene Wenger elected not to sign a striker in the summer transfer window as he put his faith in Olivier Giroud and Theo Walcott, with the latter taking the central role at the start of the season before injury gave Giroud the chance to impress. The France international has since gone on a tremendous run of form to tie down the position as his own, with his latest performance reaping two goals in the 3-3 draw with Liverpool on Wednesday despite missing a chance that Wenger went on to criticise after the match.
The injury to Walcott highlighted Arsenal’s lack of depth in attack though, with Danny Welbeck yet to play a minute of football this season after suffering a serious knee injury in April last year.
United meanwhile put in their most attacking performance of the season in the 3-3 draw with Newcastle on Tuesday, with captain Wayne Rooney enjoying a return to form after scoring four goals in his last two outings. Despite Rooney showing signs of old, manager Louis van Gaal has admitted he will be active in the transfer window, and Cavani could prove a useful addition to help Rooney and take the pressure off young forward Anthony Martial, who has struggled for goals since joining the club for £36m.
Cavani’s disillusionment stems from not making a Ligue 1 appearance since he scored the winning goal on 16 December, and although he started the 2-1 Coupe de la Ligue victory over Lyon on Wednesday night, his future look uncertain at best.
