From reproductive rights to climate change to Big Tech, The Independent is on the ground when the story is developing. Whether it's investigating the financials of Elon Musk's pro-Trump PAC or producing our latest documentary, 'The A Word', which shines a light on the American women fighting for reproductive rights, we know how important it is to parse out the facts from the messaging.
At such a critical moment in US history, we need reporters on the ground. Your donation allows us to keep sending journalists to speak to both sides of the story.
The Independent is trusted by Americans across the entire political spectrum. And unlike many other quality news outlets, we choose not to lock Americans out of our reporting and analysis with paywalls. We believe quality journalism should be available to everyone, paid for by those who can afford it.
Your support makes all the difference.David De Gea looks increasingly likely to leave Manchester United this summer, with reports today that he has already said goodbye to staff at Old Trafford.
It is no secret that the Spain international is wanted by Real Madrid and whilst happy at his current club, the pull of a return to the Spanish capital is strong for the goalkeeper.
According to the Daily Star, the former Atletico Madrid players has said his goodbyes to staff at Manchester United and signalled to Real Madrid that he will join them.
The report comes after bookmakers stopped taking bets on De Gea joining Real Madrid. There were also claims yesterday that Real Madrid president Florentino Perez is certain De Gea will join.
Any move would be expected to be for a fee of around £25m.
De Gea himself has said little publicly about leaving, although did acknowledge last week that there is uncertainty around his future: “We will see what happens,” he said.
