According to reports in Spain, Chelsea owner Roman Abramovich is ready to make drastic changes at the club following their alarming slump this season. The Blues have already lost seven of their 12 Premier League matches and their chances of retaining the title that they won just six months ago look all but gone.
Abramovich has decided to stick with manager Jose Mourinho for the time being, but Spanish newspaper AS reports that the playing squad could see large changes made in a bid to improve on-field performance. The biggest change of all is Abramovich’s desire to build a new team around Ronaldo, who could leave Real at the end of the season.
Despite the Portuguese international set to turn 31 years old before the season ends, Chelsea are hoping to make Ronaldo their key signing of the summer, and they would certainly have the funds available to do so should they elect to sell the out-of-form Hazard in the summer.
Any move could be smoothed over by the so-called ‘super-agent’ Jorge Mendes, who looks after Ronaldo’s interests and has also secured moves to Stamford Bridge for Diego Costa, Radamel Falcao and Filipe Luis in recent seasons. Furthermore, Mendes also looks after Mourinho.
Ronaldo hinted at the London premiere of his self-titled new film Ronaldo: The Man that he could work with Mourinho again despite their massive falling out during their time together at Real. Mourinho oversaw a large split in the dressing room during his tenure, and in one heated argument Ronaldo had to be restrained from trying to get his hands on the manager.
Paris Saint-Germain are expected to launch a bid for Ronaldo in the summer which Real are said to be open to negotiating, and the once impossible prospect of selling Ronaldo now looks far more realistic. With Real president Florentino Perez installing his faith in the world’s most expensive footballer, Gareth Bale, it’s though that Ronaldo could be allowed to leave the Santiago Bernabeu in order to shift the Welshman to a more central role and bring Hazard in on the left wing.
