Chelsea are now looking at Arsenal's Olivier Giroud and Leicester City's Islam Slimani as their hunt for an alternative striker goes on, with the hopes of signing Edin Dzeko from Roma receding.

Manager Antonio Conte had been keen on the Bosnian international, but it became apparent over the weekend that a deal would be difficult to strike, leading to the champions looking at other options.

The move could yet spark a late transfer window merry-go-round, as Chelsea have also been contacted by Borussia Dortmund over the availability of Michy Batshuayi, but will not let him go on loan unless they get an alternative.

Giroud, however, could become a viable option if Arsenal complete a move for Dortmund's Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang, as the French striker would want regular football, but Arsene Wenger would rather send him to a foreign club.

Their valuation of Giroud is currently £35m, and they may be reluctant to strengthen a rival for the Champions League places. The player, however, would be open to the move across London.

Conte is meanwhile keen on a specific type of aerial striker, having already seen a move for Tottenham Hotspur's Fernando Llorente fall at the first hurdle.
