Shkodran Mustafi’s agent has dismissed reports that the Arsenal defender will be leaving the club for a move to Roma.

The German has struggled to find his feet at the Emirates since arriving at the club in 2016, raising the possibility of an exit this summer.

But the defender’s agent insists that any interest from Roma is “news to me”.

“There’s nothing in it”, he told Roma News. “There has been no contact with Roma or any other Italian club.”

Arsenal also reportedly received an enquiry for the 27-year-old centre-back from Monaco this week, though it’s unclear whether the Gunners would be willing to sell.

New signing William Saliba will increase the Gunners’ defensive options but the 18-year-old isn’t due to join up with the first team until next summer as he completes a final season on loan at Saint-Etienne.

Arsenal are also faced with the prospect of captain Laurent Koscielny leaving this summer. The defender has fallen out with the club amid attempts to force through a move back to France.

With numbers dwindling, Arsenal could be left short at the back should they allow Mustafi to leave.
