From reproductive rights to climate change to Big Tech, The Independent is on the ground when the story is developing. Whether it's investigating the financials of Elon Musk's pro-Trump PAC or producing our latest documentary, 'The A Word', which shines a light on the American women fighting for reproductive rights, we know how important it is to parse out the facts from the messaging.

At such a critical moment in US history, we need reporters on the ground. Your donation allows us to keep sending journalists to speak to both sides of the story.

The Independent is trusted by Americans across the entire political spectrum. Alexandre Lacazette has long been linked with Arsenal but the latest whispers suggest that he will stay at Lyon. For now, at least.

According to L’Equipe, the France international asked to leave the Parc Olympique Lyonnais earlier this summer after learning that the Gunners and Paris Saint-Germain were sniffing around.

However, Lacazette does not want to anger Lyon fans again, after last summer's persistent speculation led to him being booed by sections of his own support.

The 25-year-old is, therefore, ‘happy’ to stay on this summer, though would not be disappointed if an offer came in from north London.

It also seems that Mauro Icardi will not be touching down at Heathrow any time soon.

“My entire family's objective is to stay in Milan,” he told Corriere dello Sport. “I never concealed the fact that I'm happy in this city, as are Wanda [Icardi’s wife] and the children.

"I'm not interested in rumours and I don't give much weight to what is said or written in the media,” he added. “What I want is known by everyone. I'm happy here, and this is where I want to stay."

If any Arsenal fans out there are hoping for Moussa Sissoko or indeed any midfielder to join before the window closes, Arsene Wenger has a big bucket of cold water for you.

“We lost three midfielders in Flamini, Rosicky and Arteta, but numbers-wise we are quite solid in midfield now,” he told the club’s official website on Thursday.

“Elneny had a big impact when he came here, Coquelin was injured for a long time and is back. Cazorla will also come back, Wilshere is back – so we are solid in midfield.” Not forgetting Granit Xhaka, of course.

Elsewhere, Bruno Peres has reportedly caught Wenger’s eye, according to Gianluca di Marzio, a firm offer is already on the table.

The right-back is also on Leicester City’s radar, which leads us nicely to Ivan Gazidis and what we can expect to see from Arsenal in future transfer dealings.

"Leicester identified players from the French second division, so maybe there's talent that we've been overlooking," the club’s chief executive told ESPN. "They did their talent identification [well], they had great unity within the group, as well as quality.

"It wasn't built on money. It was built on the great fitness work they did. It was built on all of these other elements. I think that's going to be a continuing trend within the Premier League."
