Mathieu Debuchy could become the latest player to leave Arsenal this month with St Etienne looking to sign the full-back on a short-term contract.

The French international is viewed as expendable by the Gunners, and has looked to find an ideal landing spot in order to play first-team football again.

Debuchy had been offered to some Premier League clubs but would prefer to return home to France if he can’t stay in London.

Les Verts are keen to sign a full-back with experience and hope to seal a deal tomorrow if they can find agreement on personal terms, with sources close to the deal suggesting there may be a need for the north Londoners to contribute some of his wages.

Debuchy’s compatriot Olivier Giroud is expected to join Chelsea in an £18m deal on deadline day.
