Arsenal’s new signing Rob Holding will wear Aaron Ramsey’s old No.16 shirt, the club has confirmed.
The Gunners announced the signing of the England Under-21 international from Bolton on Friday in a deal worth £2.5m.
Following a squad number reshuffle, Ramsey inherited the No.8 shirt from the retired Mikel Arteta which therefore allowed Holding to take the Welshman's former number.
There have been changes elsewhere in the squad too. Alexis Sanchez has taken the No.7 previously worn by Tomas Rosicky, Granit Xhaka will wear No.29 and youngster Alex Iwobi has been given the No.17 shirt.
Holding is not expected to command a starting spot in Arsene Wenger’s starting team and his signing has caught many fans off-guard.
The 20-year-old impressed for Bolton last season but was unable to prevent the side’s relegation from the Championship last season.
He picked up the team’s Player of the Year award and also starred for England Under-21s in this summer’s Toulon Tournament.
