Arsenal finished last year in fourth place, qualifying for the Champions League again but injuries and poor form meant their season didn't bring the rewards in the league that looked achievable before Christmas.

The Gunners did win the FA Cup and will be looking to build upon that success in the season ahead. With some key additions to the squad, Arsene Wenger will be hoping to maintain a strong title challenge as well as committing well in Europe.

COMPLETED TRANSFERS

Alexis Sanchez - £35m from Barcelona

Chile's flying winger will bring pace and directness to the Arsenal forward line and is proven at the top level. The 25-year-old netted 23 goals in 50 appearances across all competitions for Braca last year. For his national side, Sanchez scored twice at the World Cup in Brazil as part of an entertaining Chile side and scored both goals in their 2-0 friendly win over England prior to the tounrment.

Mathieu Debuchy - £10m from Newcastle

After Bacary Sagna completed his move to Manchester City, Arsenal were in need of a replacement and Wenger plumped for Newcastle's French right-back, Debuchy. The 28-year-old was France's number one choice at full-back at the World Cup and performed well throughout.

David Ospina - £3.2m from Nice

Having impressed at the World Cup (although Wenger claims he was interested before then) Ospina seems a nice fit as Wojciech Szczesny's deputy following the departure of Lukasz Fabianski

Calum Chambers - £16m from Southampton

Arsene Wenger said the purchase of the Saints youngster was a "gamble" but noted the 19-year-old's versatility - he can play centre-back, right-back and midfield - made him worth it.
