Arsenal are closing in on the capture of highly-rated Costa Rica youngster Joel Campbell, after club executive Richard Law flew to South America to clinch a £900,000 deal for the 19-year-old.

The player's father confirmed to La Prensa Libre newspaper a medical for the striker was imminent, saying: "These tests will be in the Cima hospital and supervised by the people of Arsenal. Everything is virtually ready."

Campbell, though, would have to apply for a special work permit as he has not yet played the number of required of full senior internationals set by the Home Office.
