L'Equipe in France have reported that the Argentinian wants to leave United this summer to join the French champions.
The Daily Mail have added that Di Maria, who joined from Real Madrid for a British-record £59.7m, must first hand in a transfer request to force through the move.
Di Maria struggled at Old Trafford after a bright start to his career in England, failing to make it into van Gaal's starting XI in the final three months of the season.
The 27-year-old almost moved to PSG last summer before agreeing a move to United, but the French club were unable to afford him because of Financial Fair Play restrictions and the earlier £50milllion move for David Luiz.
Di Maria has been given an extended holiday until 25 July after reaching the final of the Copa America with Argentina, which they lost on penalties to Chile.
"We shall see," Van Gaal said when asked whether Di Maria would stay.
"In football, it is a process. It's a process for Di Maria and Man Utd. We shall see.
"But he is still a member of United and he said he will come out on July 25."
PSG manager Laurent Blanc said last week when asked about a potential Di Maria transfer: "Yes. We have our priorities,” he said.
“But to strengthen such a team you must target guys who are at big clubs and who are not easy to prise away. That’s hardest for PSG.
“Di Maria, he’s good. We have more freedom, but it remains a difficult project for us because we’re not alone in wanting him.”
