From reproductive rights to climate change to Big Tech, The Independent is on the ground when the story is developing. Whether it's investigating the financials of Elon Musk's pro-Trump PAC or producing our latest documentary, 'The A Word', which shines a light on the American women fighting for reproductive rights, we know how important it is to parse out the facts from the messaging.
At such a critical moment in US history, we need reporters on the ground. Your donation allows us to keep sending journalists to speak to both sides of the story.
The Independent is trusted by Americans across the entire political spectrum. And unlike many other quality news outlets, we choose not to lock Americans out of our reporting and analysis with paywalls. We believe quality journalism should be available to everyone, paid for by those who can afford it.

Albion have collected only one point from their last four games and were comfortably beaten 2-0 by Roy Hodgson's side – their 10th away defeat in 13 games. They now face Everton away on Saturday before entertaining Arsenal on Tuesday.
Zuiverloon said: "We need to start winning. It doesn't matter how. We just need the points. We need to try to win all our home games and some away games, too. We can cause an upset at Everton. We have enough quality to win some games against teams people wouldn't expect us to beat. We have to focus on away points, too – but it needs belief from everyone."
Zuiverloon added: "We know Sunday's performance was not acceptable. We lost to a better team. But if you don't believe you shouldn't be playing football. We still have a chance and we know we can do it [escape relegation]."
The West Bromwich midfielder Filipe Teixeira is a major fitness doubt for the trip to Goodison Park. Teixeira suffered a fractured toe during the Fulham defeat in what was his first top-flight start. It was the latest injury setback for the player who spent eight months on the sidelines with knee ligament damage. The Albion manager, Tony Mowbray, wants Teixeira to have rejoined training by tomorrow to give him any chance of being able to face the Toffees. "Whether Filipe trains on Thursday, we'll have to wait and see. The main injury he's got at the moment is a fractured toe," he said.
Captain Jonathan Greening and Jonas Olsson are both back in light training after knee problems but Mowbray said he will not rush either of them back and risk losing them for longer. He said: "I don't think either Jonno or Jonas have got a chance for the weekend [even though] they're both coming on really well."
Greening has been out since the FA Cup match against Burnley on 24 January while Olsson has not featured since the League meeting with Aston Villa on 10 January.
