From reproductive rights to climate change to Big Tech, The Independent is on the ground when the story is developing. Whether it's investigating the financials of Elon Musk's pro-Trump PAC or producing our latest documentary, 'The A Word', which shines a light on the American women fighting for reproductive rights, we know how important it is to parse out the facts from the messaging.
At such a critical moment in US history, we need reporters on the ground. Your donation allows us to keep sending journalists to speak to both sides of the story.
The Independent is trusted by Americans across the entire political spectrum. And unlike many other quality news outlets, we choose not to lock Americans out of our reporting and analysis with paywalls. We believe quality journalism should be available to everyone, paid for by those who can afford it.

The New Year always kicks off with the Rumble – with two Royal Rumble matches this year going along side a brace of championship matches to determine who will be facing who at the year’s biggest show, Wrestlemania from New Orleans in April.
Television this week saw a host of big games throw themselves into the mix – Baron Corbin from Smackdown Live and John Cena of Monday Night Raw both confirmed they’ll be in the men’s Rumble match, while Natlaya, Asuka and Paige all made clear they’ll take part in this historic, inaugural women’s version of the marquee bout.
The week was headlined, however, by the news that the WWE Championship will be defended at the Royal Rumble event in a triple-threat match. Champ AJ Styles, it was announced on Smackdown, will be putting the gold on the line against both Sami Zayn and Kevin Owens.
It was the latest twist in the McMahon-Bryan saga that’s been playing out over on the blue brand for the past number of months – Bryan left with the last laugh this week as he made the announcement following Zayn’s win over Styles in a non-title match. To say that Styles was less than impressed with the news would be an understatement.
Elsewhere, Raw’s standout match was an Intercontinental championship bout as Roman Reigns retained against Samoa Joe in a stellar contest that really gave both chance to shine. The US Championship tournament also continued on Smackdown as Xavier Woods bested Aiden English to advance to the next round.
Becky Lynch made her return to a huge reaction as she aided her fellow Smackdown stars in their continuing battle against the relentless Riott squad, while The Uso’s remained the brand’s tag champions after a victory over number one contenders, Gable & Benjamin.
Jason Jordan, high off his tag team title win on Raw last week with Seth Rollins, claimed a singles win over Cesaro on Raw while Bray Wyatt came out on top against Apollo Crews before once engaging in an exchange with Woken Matt Hardy.
Also on team red this week, there was a treat for Finn Balor fans as they saw Balor team up with good pals Gallows & Anderson to pick up a win over the Miztourage and Elias, while Brawn Strowman decimated Heath Slater and Rhyno as he continues to prepare for his Royal Rumble opportunity at the Universal title against Brock Lesnar and Kane – the latter pair brawling as the show went off the air.
