Raul Jimenez injury: Wolves confirm striker suffered fractured skull after clash of heads with David Luiz

The Mexican was taken to hospital following the accident at the Emirates on Sunday

Wolves have revealed Raul Jimenez suffered a fractured skull after a clash of heads with David Luiz in the 2-1 victory over Arsenal but the Mexican is “comfortable” after an operation.

The 29-year-old received oxygen after suffering a nasty clash of heads with the Brazilian and subsequently was taken off the pitch on a stretcher. 

Luiz’s head was bandaged and he continued before exiting the game at the interval.

Wolves boss Nuno admitted he feared the worst, but the club have now provided a positive update.

An official statement read: “Raul is comfortable following an operation last night, which he underwent in a London hospital.

“He has since seen his partner Daniela and is now resting. He will remain under observation for a few days while he begins his recovery.

“The club would like to thank the medical staff at Arsenal, the NHS paramedics, hospital staff and surgeons who, through their skill and early response, were of such help.

“The club ask that Raul and his family are now afforded a period of space and privacy, before any further updates are provided in due course.”

Wolves captain Conor Coady admitted he knew “straight away” that the situation was serious.

Wolves captain Conor Coady told Sky Sports: "When it happened, it was something you knew straight away.

"We hope David Luiz is okay as well. It was a horrible clash of heads. This happens in football, but you don't like to see it.

"I think both teams went out and played properly, but it was a tough thing that happened. He's with the right people and that's the most important thing but we just hope and pray that everything's okay.

"I jumped with him and you hear it, and as they dropped... obviously he was on his side and I think it was important we kept him on his side. It's something we never want to see, with one of our team-mates or with anybody.

"We got a fantastic result but the one thing that matters is making sure Raul and David Luiz are okay.

"[Raul] is in the hospital and by all accounts he's awake and breathing. I don't know too much, because I've not been there. The most important thing is we get Raul sorted because it's a massive collision he's had there."
