Huddersfield Town heaped further pressure on bottom of the table West Brom who are still searching for their second Premier League win under Alan Pardew.

Ahead of the game Pardew said, "the fat lady isn’t in the room yet", but after yet another hopeless performance, she might be starting to warm up her voice.

Rajiv van La Parra took advantage of some non-existent marking to open the scoring shortly after half-time, then Steve Mounie doubled Huddersfield’s lead less than ten minutes later when he beat an offside trap to finish beyond Ben Foster.

In another game where West Brom struggled to create chances from open play, Craig Dawson scored from a corner as they looked to mount a comeback and avoid a fourth straight league defeat but it was not to be.

For David Wagner it was a job well done and a welcome win on the road after winning just twice away from home in the league prior to their visit to the Black Country.

Time may well be ticking on West Brom’s Premier League status and Alan Pardew’s tenure at the Hawthorns with frustration growing amongst the supports and the owners.

Wagner’s side could have had an early lead but Ben Foster pulled off an impressive double save to deny Alex Pritchard and van La Parra from close range which set the tone for the rest of the game.

Boos rang around the Hawthorns at halftime after another lacklustre display from the home side but worse was still to come; just two minutes after the break, Huddersfield were ahead.

Colin Quaner was allowed to stroll into the box from the right wing and pick out Rajiv van La Parra in the box. The winger was unmarked and directed the ball into the bottom corner with a tame effort as the West Brom defenders watch on.

West Brom, like their fans, were in shock and quickly conceded a second. Pritchard was given space to turn and with a clever through ball he found Mounie who had beaten the offside trap and kept his nerve to finish past Foster.

The Baggies blocked out chants of ‘you’re not fit to wear the shirt,’ from the home fans and rallied to begin a comeback. From a corner Craig Dawson escaped Terence Kongolo’s clutches and headed in from inside the six yard box, West Brom’s fifth strike from a corner out of their last six goals.

With their tails up, West Brom surged forward with more intent but continued to struggle to create chances from open play.

Gareth Barry had a well hit shot saved and Brut fired a well struck free kick towards goal which had to be tipped over by Jonas Lossl but both efforts from outside the box never looked to be going in.

Pardew brought on Oliver Burke and Jake Livermore, who made his first appearance since apologising for breaching a curfew in Barcelona, to inspire a comeback but Huddersfield remained resilient and dealt with what little danger faced them.

This was a fixture Pardew refused to label a traditional ‘six-pointer’ but time and games are running out to keep this club in the top-flight, ad based on this offering, the future looks grim.
