From reproductive rights to climate change to Big Tech, The Independent is on the ground when the story is developing. Whether it's investigating the financials of Elon Musk's pro-Trump PAC or producing our latest documentary, 'The A Word', which shines a light on the American women fighting for reproductive rights, we know how important it is to parse out the facts from the messaging.

At such a critical moment in US history, we need reporters on the ground. Your donation allows us to keep sending journalists to speak to both sides of the story.

The Independent is trusted by Americans across the entire political spectrum. And unlike many other quality news outlets, we choose not to lock Americans out of our reporting and analysis with paywalls. We believe quality journalism should be available to everyone, paid for by those who can afford it.

Watford have made their first signing of the January transfer window with the arrival of striker Moses Ashikodi from Rangers for a nominal fee.

Ashikodi, 19, has been given a two-and-a-half-year contract by the Hornets. Ashikodi has represented England at all levels from Under-15 to Under-19 and goes straight into the squad for Saturday's FA Cup tie with Stockport.

Sheffield United claim they could receive up to £1.125m for Ade Akinbiyi after selling the striker back to Burnley.

The Clarets announced the £750,000 signing less than 12 hours into the transfer window but the Blades have claimed they will receive a seven-figure sum depending on add-ons in the deal.

The 32-year-old rejoined the Clarets on a two-and-a-half-year contract less than 12 months after leaving Turf Moor in a £1.75m transfer.

Anthony Stokes has returned to Arsenal for discussions on his future after his successful spell at Falkirk.

The 18-year-old has been in sensational form for the Bairns, scoring 16 goals this season in all competitions.

Samuel Eto'o has been named for the fourth time, alongside Chelsea's Didier Drogba and Michael Essien, as a candidate for the 2006 African Player of the Year award. The winner will be announced on 1 March in Accra, Ghana.
