Vanishing spray: Premier League orders 2,000 cans following World Cup success

They hope it will be enough to last the season

The Premier League has ordered a season's supply of cans of vanishing spray for their officials this season.

After widespread praise and success at the World Cup in Brazil, the Premier League last week confirmed that the method would be introduced in England's top flight.

League chiefs have now ordered 2,000 cans, what they hope will be enough for the season, according to the Daily Telegraph.

Although it is hard to estimate how much spray will be needed for the season, those in charge will instruct referees to only use the spray when it is really necessary - only in the final third where players could make an attempt at goal.

The spray, produced in Argentina by 915 Fair Play Limit, will also be used in the Champions League and the Europa League next season.

However, the Football League have elected to trial it for a season in the Johnstone's Paint Trophy.

"We are open to developments that enhance the competition and it was clear from watching the World Cup that vanishing spray benefited referees, players, and all of those who watched the matches," said Premier League boss Richard Scudamore when its use was announced.

The announcement on the Premier League's Twitter page was their most popular ever, gaining more than 10,000 retweets.
