Tottenham continue their pre-season campaign on Friday morning when they take on Spanish side Atletico Madrid in Melbourne, as part of the International Champions Cup. The match against last season's Champions League finalists takes place at the Melbourne Cricket Ground, kicking off at 11am BST.

This is Spurs' second match at Melbourne in three days, having opened their pre-season preparations with a Champions Cup defeat to Juventus on Tuesday. Erik Lamela scored a second-half consolation as a much-changed and weakened Spurs side struggled to respond to two early Juventus strikes from Paulo Dybala and Medhi Benatia.

Mauricio Pochettino's side are using the matches against some of Europe's stellar names as prepataion for their return to the Champions League in September. Atletico beat Numancia 2-0 in their opening pre-season match last week.

Spurs hope for better rewards against what could be a strong Atletico side as they seek to build on last season’s fine campaign, when they competed with Leicester City for the Premier League title until the final weeks of the campaign, only for a stumble in the last month took them down to third and, again, behind bitter rivals Arsenal.

Mauricio Pochettino was able to blood new signings Vincent Wanyama and Vincent Janssen from the start against Juventus this week, with both again expected to feature on Friday.

Tottenham complete their pre-season programme with a match against Internazionale in, of course, Oslo, next week, when they are likely to be bolstered by the return of a number of more well-known names.

England quintet Kyle Walker, Danny Rose, Harry Kane, Dele Alli and Eric Dier have all being given extra time to recover from their Euro 2016 travails, along with Hugo Lloris, handed compassionate leave following the terrorist attacks in his home city of Nice.

Belgian trio Toby Alderweireld, Jan Vertonghen and Mousa Dembele also miss out, along with Wales lef-back Ben Davies. Austrian Kevin Wimmer is the only Spurs player involved in Euro 2016 to make the trip to Australia, but did not feature on Tuesday. Christian Eriksen also missed the match against the Italians, with a virus, but is expected to feature against Atletico.

Lamela came off the bench to inspire an improved performance and could start, while Jan Oblak, Diego Godin, Saul Niguez, Gabi and Fernando Torres are in the Spanish team's squad - although Antoine Griezmann, Yannick Carrasco and Koke are not yet back from summer breaks.

Unlike Spurs, Atletico only play one match in the competition, but remain in the country to take on Melbourne Victory on Sunday. Diego Simeone's side also take on Galatasaray and Cadiz before the start of the La Liga campaign on 21 August.

Tottenham's squad Luke Amos, Dominic Ball, Tom Carroll, Cameron Carter-Vickers, Nacer Chadli, Marcus Edwards, Eriksen, Tom Glover, Shayon Harrison, Janssen, Lamela, Ryan Mason, Luke McGee, Will Miller, Josh Onomah, Heung-min Son, Kieran Trippier, Michel Vorm, Kyle Walker-Peters, Anton Walkes, Wanyama, Wimmer, Harry Winks, DeAndre Yedlin.
