Tevez 'rejects £40m Real Madrid offer'

Reports this morning suggest that Carlos Tevez has rejected a move to Real Madrid thought to be worth £40m.

Reports in the Mail this morning suggest the Argentine turned down the offer and is hopeful a deal can be struck with his current employers Manchester United.

The striker's representative Kia Joorabchian has also insisted that it is up to Tevez to decide his future and that money is not an issue in determining his next move.

"Carlos will decide on his future," Joorabchian said. "Carlos Tevez will decide where Carlos Tevez will play.

"This is not about money it's about where Carlos wants to play and his family.

"To turn down the chance of progressing talks of this nature shows this."

Tevez's situation at Old Trafford has changed dramatically over the last few days. Having given an interview in which he said he no longer felt wanted at the club and would be leaving in the summer, the situation now appears to be that he wishes to stay.

Sir Alex Ferguson has also insisted United would like the striker to remain at the club, despite reports to the contrary from Tevez's representatives.

"There was a meeting with (chief executive) David Gill on Wednesday, that is a clear fact," said Ferguson.

"They discussed the avenue under which Carlos could stay with Manchester United. End of story.

"I realise you (the media) speak to his agent but I do not wish to discuss the matter any further."
