Liverpool are understood to be on the verge of announcing March 29 as the date they will pay tribute to captain Steven Gerrard before he leaves Anfield.

The Reds skipper has already announced that he will be joining LA Galaxy when his contract expires at the end of the current campaign.

Having served the club for 17 years and led the club to Champions League success and multiple domestic trophies, Liverpool are keen to give Gerrard a proper send off.

That will include a tribute game in which a host of former team-mates and international stars have already been asked to appear. Among them is Jamie Carragher, who has reportedly altered plans for the opening of his new bar in New York so that he can take part.

Sunday March 29 is understood to be the date the game will be played, coinciding with the upcoming international break. England play Lithuania on the Friday and Italy on Tuesday whilst Liverpool will have been in action against Manchester United a week prior and don't play again until meeting Arsenal the following Saturday, meaning minimum disruption to Liverpool's push for a top-four finish in the Premier League.
