Your support helps us to tell the story
From reproductive rights to climate change to Big Tech, The Independent is on the ground when the story is developing. Whether it's investigating the financials of Elon Musk's pro-Trump PAC or producing our latest documentary, 'The A Word', which shines a light on the American women fighting for reproductive rights, we know how important it is to parse out the facts from the messaging.
At such a critical moment in US history, we need reporters on the ground. Your donation allows us to keep sending journalists to speak to both sides of the story.
The Independent is trusted by Americans across the entire political spectrum. And unlike many other quality news outlets, we choose not to lock Americans out of our reporting and analysis with paywalls. We believe quality journalism should be available to everyone, paid for by those who can afford it.
Your support makes all the difference.Tottenham have made an approach for Curtis Davies, but have had their £5m bid for the West Bromwich defender rejected. They are expected to make an improved offer before the transfer window closes but are unlikely to reach West Bromwich's near £10m valuation of the England Under-21 international.
Albion rejected an £8.5m bid from Portsmouth last summer but are unlikely to receive a similar offer now. Spurs want a central defender, with Calum Davenport and Anthony Gardner both surplus to requirements, but West Bromwich have to consider the effects of selling Davies on their chances of promotion.
Davies is not the only Albion player in demand. Offers are expected for Zoltan Gera, with Middlesbrough having a bid of £1.5m rejected and interest from Portsmouth, while Nigel Quashie appears certain to leave, possibly for Charlton or West Ham. Wigan are expected to complete a £3m move for their former striker Nathan Ellington, although their initial bid has been rejected by Albion.
Portsmouth have moved for the French defender Younes Kaboul. He is available for £4m from Auxerre. Harry Redknappwould also like to sign West Ham's Yossi Benayoun but is unlikely to be encouraged.
