Manchester United moved up to third in the Premier League with victory against Southampton.

The win at St Mary's was United's fifth in a row but it did not always look likely that their run would continue.

Louis van Gaal's side often looked suspect at the back and can thanks Southampton's wayward finishing for coming out on top after 90 minutes.

In contrast, Robin van Persie was clinical in front of goal, with the Dutchman pouncing on a couple of chances that came his way with goals that both came against the run of play.

For the hosts, Graziano Pelle netted with a powerful finish from inside the box, with his goal being sandwiched between the two RVP efforts.
