From reproductive rights to climate change to Big Tech, The Independent is on the ground when the story is developing. Whether it's investigating the financials of Elon Musk's pro-Trump PAC or producing our latest documentary, 'The A Word', which shines a light on the American women fighting for reproductive rights, we know how important it is to parse out the facts from the messaging.

At such a critical moment in US history, we need reporters on the ground. Your donation allows us to keep sending journalists to speak to both sides of the story.

The Independent is trusted by Americans across the entire political spectrum. And unlike many other quality news outlets, we choose not to lock Americans out of our reporting and analysis with paywalls. We believe quality journalism should be available to everyone, paid for by those who can afford it.

Ronald Koeman either sees the funny side of the Southampton exodus or failed to notice the irony of his training ground tweet.

With Southampton players leaving the club in their droves, the latest of which saw Dejan Lovrens move to Liverpool in a £20m deal, the new Saints manager tweeted a picture from the club's Staplewoord training ground - without a single player in sight.

The picture was accompanied with the words "Ready for #Training!".

The lack of players at Southampton must be becoming a serious concern for the Dutchman, who replaced Mauricio Pochettino who left for Tottenham.

Liverpool have also snatched Rickie Lambert and Adam Lallana from St Mary's, Luke Shaw left for Manchester United and Calum Chambers is on the verge of joining Arsenal.

At least Koeman can point to strong pre-season form with four victories from four, including most recently a 1-0 win over Bournemouth. Southampton start the season away against Liverpool.
