From reproductive rights to climate change to Big Tech, The Independent is on the ground when the story is developing. Whether it's investigating the financials of Elon Musk's pro-Trump PAC or producing our latest documentary, 'The A Word', which shines a light on the American women fighting for reproductive rights, we know how important it is to parse out the facts from the messaging.

At such a critical moment in US history, we need reporters on the ground. Your donation allows us to keep sending journalists to speak to both sides of the story.

The Independent is trusted by Americans across the entire political spectrum. And unlike many other quality news outlets, we choose not to lock Americans out of our reporting and analysis with paywalls. We believe quality journalism should be available to everyone, paid for by those who can afford it.

Real Sociedad goalkeeper Asier Riesgo is hoping a deal can now be struck for him to join Tottenham after he seemingly impressed during his trial with the Barclays Premier League club.

Spurs manager Harry Redknapp took a look at the 26-year-old Riesgo as he seeks cover for first-choice custodian Heurelho Gomes after back-up Carlo Cudicini suffered injuries to his pelvis and wrists in a motorcycle accident that could rule him out of the rest of the campaign or beyond.

Riesgo, a former Spain Under-21 international who spent last season on loan at Recreativo Huelva before returning to Segunda Division club Sociedad, is hoping he did enough during his time in England to earn himself a deal at White Hart Lane.

"It's a nice opportunity. I would go to a great club and a change of air would be good for me. I have to look out for my interests," Riesgo was quoted as saying in newspaper Diario Vasco on his return to Sociedad today.

"The coach told me that he was happy with the time that I spent there. Now the clubs have to find a financial agreement. I think that it's a positive operation for all."
