FA Cup semi-finalists Wigan come into this game in great form off the back of their comprehensive win over Everton last weekend and will hope be hoping that momentum is enough to take all three points. Newcastle however have the same incentive of climbing the table as they push for a top-half finish.

It is normally this time of year the Roberto Martininez’s team start to see an upturn in their fortunes and it appears this one is no different, having won three of their last four in all competitions.

Newcastle are faring well themselves though with four league wins in their last six games, especially impressive considering their continued involvement in the Europa League where they have progressed to the last eight.

KICK-OFF: Sunday, 4pm

PAST THREE MEETINGS…

Newcastle 3 (Ba 2, Bigirimana) Wigan 0, December 2012

Wigan 4 (Moses 2, Maloney, Di Santo) Newcastle 0, April 2012

Newcastle 1 (Cabaye) Wigan 0, October 2011

STATS…

It was at this point last season that Wigan won seven of their last nine games to maintain their Premier League status. All of these were at home.

A Newcastle win could see them move onto level points with Fulham in 10 depending on other results.

If Wigan take all three points they could go level on points with Aston Villa who are in 17.

The magpies have only won one of their last 15 away Premier League fixtures.

The Latics have only taken two points from their six home league games.

Newcastle’s number nine Papiss Cisse has now scored three goals in his last four games in all competitions.

ODDS…

Wigan to win: 2.25

Newcastle to win: 3.2

Draw: 3.3

CLASSIC MOMENT/MATCH

This fixture last year produced a notable shock result. Newcastle were in great form and Papiss Cisse was scoring at will but Wigan brought them crashing down to earth in dramatic style. Goals from messrs Moses, Maloney and Di Santo wrapped up an emphatic 4-0 victory for the Latics.
