The Portugal international went on a season-long loan to Sporting Lisbon during the summer as part of the deal that saw Marcos Rojo arrive to Old Trafford.
It saw Nani return to the club from which he joined Manchester United in 2007. During the intervening seven years, the winger showed great ability but struggled for consistency and over the last couple of seasons his performances tailed off dramatically.
Nani conceded: "Playing for Manchester United was my dream but I suffered a dip in form.
"You can't play well if you are not happy."
Nani was linked with a move away last summer but has revealed former Red Devils manager David Moyes blocked a transfer. Despite being held onto by Moyes, Nani would make just 13 appearances in all competitions.
"I received a lot of offers last season from Turkey, England, and Spain.
"They held talks with Manchester United but Moyes did not want to let me go."
On his move to Sporting Lisbon, Nani said: "I do not think that it's a step back.
"I had other options but I decided to play at this club. It was my choice."
