Diego Maradona is ready to quit his job as manager of the Argentina national side to become Portsmouth's 'global ambassador' according to reports today.

The Argentinean legend has been linked with the post after Arabianbusiness.com, a website seen to have ties with new Portsmouth owner Sulaiman Al Fahim, claimed to have seen emails discussing the move with Maradona's lawyer Angel Oscar Moyano.

Portsmouth recently confirmed Paul Hart as manager, leading to speculation the former drug addict would take on a director of football style role.

Moyano is quoted as saying: "Maradona has got top players ready and he is even ready to leave the Argentine national team.

"Al Fahim wants to build a strong team for which he offers his mediation for signing top level players.

"With the support of Diego Maradona, they will be ready to come to Portsmouth."
