Phil Jones to return to Manchester United’s Premier League squad
Jones was left out of initial 25-man squad due to knee injury
Phil Jones will be included in Manchester United’s Premier League squad and could eventually feature this season, according to Ole Gunnar Solskjaer.
Jones was left out of both United's Premier League and Champions League squads earlier this season due to a long-term knee injury.
The 28-year-old has not played in more than a year, since scoring in a 6-0 FA Cup win over Tranmere Rovers, but Solskjaer insists he still has a future at Old Trafford.
"Phil has been recovering from a knee injury, an operation he had, and he's working hard to be available again," the United manager said.
"He will be included on the list and hopefully he'll get his fitness back sooner rather than later and be available to play."
Sergio Romero was also left off United's squad lists earlier this season, while Marcos Rojo was omitted from the Champions League selection.
Both were subsequently granted permission to speak to other clubs ahead of their contracts expiring at the end of the season.
Rojo is nearing a return to his native Argentina with Boca Juniors, though Romero's situation remains unchanged.
Jones' contract at Old Trafford runs until the summer of 2023, with United retaining the option of extending his terms by another year.
