Jose Mourinho is confident Manchester United are now starting to get the best out of Paul Pogba following his star performance in Monday night’s 3-0 victory over Stoke.

After being sidelined earlier this season due to injury and suspension, the Frenchman has started to rediscover his form, notably providing two assists against the Potters last night at Old Trafford.

Mourinho is now confident the £89m signing will only get better with time, with United increasingly adapting their game-plan to the midfielder’s strengths.

“He was moving the ball fantastically well, with long passes changing the direction and creating problems for the opponent,” Mourinho said after the game.

“He had an assist and if he had scored the free-kick with the last shot of the game, it would be really a reward for him.

“I think he is happy with the way the team is playing and he’s happy because the team is changing the profile and the profile is going more in his direction.”

After cutting Manchester City’s lead at the top of the league to 12 point, Pogba insisted on Monday that United have not lost hope of catching their rivals.

“Obviously we see Manchester City in front of us and they lost,” he told Sky Sports.

“They are first so we always want to catch them, so it was good that they lost, so for us we have to think about ourselves.

“It’s good that they lose points but we have to go back to winning because we want to catch them again.”
