Manchester United have unveiled their new home kit for the 2016/17 season, the first to be worn under Jose Mourinho’s management.

The strip, designed by German sportswear giant Adidas, features a red shirt, white shorts and black socks - the same design shown in numerous ‘leaks’ which emerged on social media over the past few months.

The shirt is two distinct shades of red, split half-and-half down the middle by a hexagonal pattern.

Adidas’ iconic ‘three stripes’ motif runs from the underarms to the hem rather than on the shoulders.

The strip, which has been spotted on sale in some countries since mid-June, was officially unveiled in on Saturday in Shanghai, as part of United’s pre-season tour of China.

Adidas’ design was ‘leaked’ for a final time on Friday night when EA Sports published an image of Anthony Martial, the United striker, wearing the new strip at a promotional photo-shoot for Fifa 17.

Martial himself revealed the design last Sunday, when posting another image from the promotional shoot to his Twitter account. The post was subsequently deleted.

Adidas agreed to become United’s official kit manufacturer in July 2014, with the £750m deal coming into effect the following year.
