Van Persie was injured in the 1-0 defeat to Southampton on Sunday and was unable to travel to the Ballon d'Or ceremony in Switzerland, despite being one of three nominations for the Puskas Award for best goal of the year.
The striker is one of four United players currently injured. Young defender remains a long-term concern but right-back Rafael, who has a fractured cheekbone, is expected to return soon after he had an operation; the Brazilian has been training in a protective mask.
