Lucas Leiva is facing up to a month on the sidelines after injuring his thigh in the Merseyside derby on Saturday evening.

The Liverpool midfielder lasted just 15 minutes in the 0-0 draw at Goodison Park and is set to undergo a scan on Monday to discover the full extent of the injury - the Daily Mail report that he could be missing for up to a month.

Lucas has been a crucial part of Liverpool's recent run of excellent form, having been out of Brendan Rodgers' plans at the start of the season; the only defeat suffered by Liverpool in the last two months, against Manchester United on 14 December, came with Lucas out of the team.

Should Lucas miss the full month, he would miss key clashes against Spurs, Crystal Palace in the FA Cup, two Europa League ties with Besiktas and a trip to in-form Southampton.

Raheem Sterling and Philippe Coutinho are also set to have late fitness tests for the game against Spurs on Tuesday night, but Adam Lallana should be back for the game.
