Liverpool’s Champions League away tie with RB Leipzig to take place in Budapest

First leg of the last-16 tie has been relocated from the Red Bull Arena to the Hungarian capital

Liverpool's away leg against RB Leipzig in the last 16 of the Champions League will take place at Budapest's Puskas Arena.

The move comes as a result of coronavirus-related travel restrictions in Germany, where Leipzig's home tie would otherwise have been held.

Liverpool were set to travel to the Bundesliga outfit's Red Bull Arena for the first leg of the knockout tie on 16 February, and the relocated match will still take place on that date.

Leipzig then travel to Anfield for the second leg on 10 March.

A statement released by Uefa on Sunday read: "Uefa would like to thank RB Leipzig and Liverpool FC for their close cooperation and assistance in finding a solution to the issue at hand, as well as the Hungarian Football Federation for their support and agreeing to host the match in question."

Julian Nagelsmann's Leipzig last season reached the semi-finals of the Champions League, losing 3-0 to eventual runners-up Paris Saint-Germain in a single-leg tie.

Liverpool, meanwhile, who were champions in 2019, were eliminated in the round of 16 by Atletico Madrid.

Jurgen Klopp's Reds lost 1-0 to the La Liga club in Spain in the first leg of that tie, before falling 3-2 to Diego Simeone's side at Anfield in the reverse fixture.
