Liverpool defeated Manchester United 2-0 to extend their unbeaten run to 22 games in a thrilling game at Anfield.

Jurgen Klopp’s side now boast a 16-point lead at the top of the Premier League table and still hold a game in hand over closest challengers Manchester City, who slipped to a 2-2 draw against Crystal Palace on Saturday.

Virgil van Dijk headed Liverpool into the lead after just 14 minutes in a one-sided first half, while Roberto Firmino saw his strike ruled out by VAR after the Dutch centre-back was adjudged to have fouled David De Gea in the build-up.

However, Liverpool failed to capitalise on their dominance, with Mohamed Salah missing a tap-in on the edge of the six-yard box, and were forced to hold on during a nervy finale.

But as United poured forward in stoppage time, Salah was set free on the break by Alisson and the Egyptian sealed the victory with virtually the last kick of the game.
