Liverpool are considering swapping Mario Balotelli with Mario Gomez in their quest for a stronger front line, reports suggest.

The Italian striker's chances of staying at Anfield are next to none after manager Brendan Rodgers left him out of the squad for the pre-season tour in Asia and Australia.

According to Italian title Mediaset, the 24-year-old could return to Italy with Fiorentina on loan, with Gomez to move to the Reds on loan.

Balotelli failed to deliver at Liverpool, scoring only one Premier League goal in 16 appearances and is now standing by the exit door.

Gomez had great success at Bayern Munich where he amassed 115 appearances and 75 goals but the arrival and impressive form of Mario Mandzukic led to his departure from Bavaria.

The 30-year-old joined the Viola two years ago but struggled to settle due to a number of injuries and poor form, which only saw him scoring 14 goals in 47 appearances.

Nevertheless, it is said that Rodgers is confident enough that he can revive the Germany international who also had a prolific tenure with Stuttgart.

Reports suggest that both clubs are very satisfied with that deal and the only thing remaining is both players agreeing with it.
