Liverpool kept their title hopes alive with a 4-1 victory over Manchester United at Old Trafford.
In a highly entertaining game, Liverpool came out victorious to close the gap at the top of the table to four points and put a few doubts in what appeared to be a stroll towards the league title for the Red Devils.
Manchester United opened the scoring when Cristiano Ronaldo scored from the penalty spot. Park Ji Sung was brought down by Pepe Reina in the 23rd minute and Ronaldo rifled the ball into the back of the net.
Yet Liverpool reacted well after going behind and were rewarded when Nemanja Vidic made a rare mistake that allowed Fernando Torres to get in on goal. The Spaniard calmly slotted home after racing in on Edwin van der Sar's goal.
Liverpool stunned the Old Trafford crowd just before half time when Steven Gerrard was tripped in the box by Patrice Evra and dusted himself off to convert the penalty.
Manchester United pushed for an equaliser in the second half, sending Dimitar Berbatov, Paul Scholes and Ryan Giggs on when they failed to find the net.
Yet Vidic's day was to get even worse when he was sent off for hauling Gerrard to the ground when the Liverpool captain was in on goal - and Liverpool immediately took advantage of the situation. From the resulting free-kick Fabio Aurelio curled the ball over the wall with a shot that left van der Sar stranded.
Liverpool completed their fairytale week, which included a 4-0 victory over Real Madrid during midweek, when second half subsititute Andrea Dossena lobbed the Manchester United keeper in injury time.
Liverpool's win was the biggest home defeat inflicted on Manchester United in 17 years, and while the World Champions remain in pole position in the league - the result leaves United with a challenge on their hands.
