Liverpool have set their sights on Olympiakos goalkeeper Roberto Jimenez Gago who has attracted plenty of interest from La Liga and the Serie A, reports suggest.

According to Greek media, the Reds have approached the Spanish goalkeeper's manager and could see him and Simon Mignolet fighting out for the starting keeper's position at Anfield.

The Saint, as he is called by Greek fans, still has three more years left in his contract which has a release clause of £7 million.

Therefore, any team interested in him will have to go through Olympiakos first, which is something the Merseyside club has reportedly not done.

The former Atletico Madrid player has attracted plenty of interest from major clubs around Europe who see him as their next starting goalkeeper, such as Inter Milan, Roma, Valencia and Villareal.

Nevertheless, the 29-year-old told Marca: "I still have three more years left in my contract and am not planning anything.

"It's always nice to talk with great clubs.

"But now, I am relaxed and enjoy my holidays.

"I am trying to isolate myself from everything."

Roberto joined the Greek champions in 2013 where he quickly established himself as the starting keeper, amassed 61 appearances and won two Superleague titles as well as one cup.

Roberto also turned a lot of heads in the Champions League where he committed a number of saves that led to great victories against the likes of Manchester United, Atletico Madrid, Juventus and Benfica.
