Liverpool manager Jurgen Klopp hails win over 'careless' Burnley

Xherdan Shaqiri has told Liverpool “need to be brave” against teams that sit back against them as they bid to chase down Manchester City.

After a frustrating first half for the Reds, matters got worse when Jack Cork bundled Burnley into the lead on 54 minutes.

Quick fire goals from James Milner and Roberto Firmino turned the game on its head before Shaqiri confirmed the three points with his strike in added time.

But the Swiss international has called on his side to be ambitious, he said: "We have to be brave in these games. We know we are going to have a lot of possession, but obviously we have to defend well.”

"At half-time he (Klopp) just said we have to be more in the game, more lively in the game, and to win the ball more because a lot times we played not forward but back.

Last night’s finish was Shaqiri’s third Premier League goal for his new club after a £13 million move from relegated Stoke in the summer.

"We stayed calm and tried to manage the game and stay in the game and in the end we deserved to win.

"We weren't exactly perfect on the ball, but in the second half we did better and we managed the game very well and then we scored three goals.”

Liverpool’s comeback ensured that they remain just two points off leaders Manchester City who won their match 2-1 away at Watford on Tuesday night.

"It was most important to take three points from here which we know is not simple, so in the end we are happy” the former Stoke winger said.
