After reports emerged that Manchester United turned down the chance to sign Isco in 2013 because ‘his head was too big for his body,’ the former Liverpool man spotted his window of opportunity.
Taking to social media, Carragher pointed out the story to Neville and tweeted: “Bizarre that considering the success they had with @Gnev2.”
The tweet has been retweeted more than 8,000 times and liked nearly 27,500 times.
The pair enjoy a jovial and light-hearted relationship on social media, having exchanged a number of mocking tweets over the years.
Carragher has seemingly had the latest laugh after capitalising on the bizarre story that Isco's head side put United off a move for the Spaniard.
Towards the end of Sir Alex Ferguson's time at Old Trafford, a senior club scout was dispatched to assess Isco, then at Malaga.
According to the ESPN report, the player was watched several times before United eventually opted against making a move for Isco.
"He's good, but not quite quick enough and his head is too big for his body," was the verdict on the then 21-year-old playmaker.
