David James is again being linked with a move to Tottenham in January.

The England keeper is eager to boost his chances of claiming the No 1 jersey for the World Cup and is understood to favour a move away from Portsmouth.

The south coast club have struggled this season amidst turmoil away from the pitch that has led to a number of big name players leaving. James is eager to avoid becoming embroiled in a relegation scrap as he tries to impress England manager Fabio Capello.

Tottenham boss Harry Redknapp, who was James' manager at Fratton Park, wants a reunion and is hopeful that a £1m bid will be enough to lure the England stopper to White Hart Lane.

It has been suggested that any deal could involve Tottenham reserve keeper Carlo Cudicini moving in the opposite direction.
