Your support helps us to tell the story
From reproductive rights to climate change to Big Tech, The Independent is on the ground when the story is developing. Whether it's investigating the financials of Elon Musk's pro-Trump PAC or producing our latest documentary, 'The A Word', which shines a light on the American women fighting for reproductive rights, we know how important it is to parse out the facts from the messaging.
At such a critical moment in US history, we need reporters on the ground. Your donation allows us to keep sending journalists to speak to both sides of the story.
The Independent is trusted by Americans across the entire political spectrum. And unlike many other quality news outlets, we choose not to lock Americans out of our reporting and analysis with paywalls. We believe quality journalism should be available to everyone, paid for by those who can afford it.
Your support makes all the difference.Liverpool manager Rafa Benitez fears Steven Gerrard will remain out of action for almost two weeks as the club chases its first English title in 19 years.
The England midfielder was already ruled out of tonight's match against Arsenal because of a groin injury, and Benitez now says it will be "difficult" for him to recover in time for Saturday's match against Hull.
Liverpool's next match after that is at home to Newcastle on Sunday 3 May.
"It's always disappointing when Stevie isn't in the team but we have won games without him and played well without him at times this season," Benitez said today. "We have quality in the squad and I am sure we can still play nice football, score goals and win games, whoever is in the team."
Gerrard, who strained his adductor muscle, missed last week's match at Chelsea as the Reds were ousted from the Champions League.
In the Premier League, Liverpool are one point behind leader Manchester United, which has a game in hand.
