Frank Lampard: Chelsea job is the biggest challenge of my career

Frank Lampard has promised that he will give every Chelsea player a clean slate under his new management.

Chelsea players start to return for pre-season training this weekend and Lampard will have to take decisions on players who were loaned out or simply not played by his predecessor Maurizio Sarri.

Danny Drinkwater did not play a minute of competitive football last season, but when Lampard was asked about players like Drinkwater at his Thursday afternoon unveiling, the new head coach insisted that everyone would have a chance to impress.

“Everybody who joins up tomorrow, and it will be staggered, will have the opportunity to show what they can do," Lampard said.

"With their attitude, the way they play and train in pre-season onwards."

Lampard said that he will give every player a chance when they start training at Cobham this month. “I would be a fool to come here with ideas about how I’m going to freeze anybody out," he said. "I want to get the best out of the squad.

“Everybody has an opportunity. I have no pre-conceived ideas about anybody, I have got good knowledge of the squad, but I need to see them over the next month."
