The embarrassing moment came in Sunderland's 2-0 defeat to Leicester City at the Stadium of Light.
Attempting to strike the ball at goal with his left foot, somehow the Italian striker managed to completely miss the target and instead kick the ball into his own face.
The Borini gaffe came as Sunderland sought an equaliser following Jamie Vardy's first goal.
Ultimately Sunderland would go on to lose 2-0 after Vardy scored again, with the result leaving the Black Cats four points from safety and looking increasingly likely to be relegated.
While Sunderland fans were left despairing, most seemed to enjoy the moment...
Even Sunderland's official Twitter account got excited...
Sunderland have six games of their season remaining in which to save themselves.
