Mourinho appeared to confirm earlier in the season that Hazard’s contract extension was on the verge of completion, but two months’ down the line the Belgian winger is yet to sign an agreement and tie down his long-term future at Stamford Bridge.
The 24-year-old winger has scored 13 goals in 35 appearances this season in all competitions, and is undoubtedly enjoying his best season to-date since arriving at Chelsea in the summer of 2012.
But his uncertain future, amid reported interest from Real Madrid and Paris Saint-Germain, has led to anxious Blues fans questioning why the deal has not been completed, but the Portuguese looked more than relaxed as he explained he wanted to buy a “nice pen” for Hazard to sign the contract with.
Speaking ahead of tonight’s match against Everton, Mourinho told www.chelseafc.com: “I am buying a nice pen.
“I need a bit of time to go to Sloane Street and buy a proper pen. I just need time to buy the pen and after that I think there is not a long time to go!”
While Mourinho’s words are far from serious, it will relax fans who were starting to fear that Hazard’s Premier League future was being thrown into doubt.
