Your support helps us to tell the story
From reproductive rights to climate change to Big Tech, The Independent is on the ground when the story is developing. Whether it's investigating the financials of Elon Musk's pro-Trump PAC or producing our latest documentary, 'The A Word', which shines a light on the American women fighting for reproductive rights, we know how important it is to parse out the facts from the messaging.
At such a critical moment in US history, we need reporters on the ground. Your donation allows us to keep sending journalists to speak to both sides of the story.
The Independent is trusted by Americans across the entire political spectrum. And unlike many other quality news outlets, we choose not to lock Americans out of our reporting and analysis with paywalls. We believe quality journalism should be available to everyone, paid for by those who can afford it.
Your support makes all the difference.Jose Mourinho says Chelsea are 'trying everything' they can to get £32m striker Diego Costa fit in time to face Everton.
Costa has made a superb start to his Chelsea career, scoring two decisive goals, an equaliser against Burnley and the opener against Leicester, in two matches.
But the 25-year-old suffered a minor muscle injury on Thursday and is now battling to be fit for the game on Saturday evening.
Speaking at his pre-match press conference, the Chelsea manager said: "We are trying everything for him to play tomorrow. He didn't train for the last two days. Today is the last day."
The Chelsea manager, who also admitted he needed to sell at least one foreign player, confirmed that Costa would not be starting the match even if he passes a fitness test.
"If the reaction is positive he could be on the bench, if not, we don't select him," he added. "At the moment, I don't know.
"He is a big doubt, let's see. Everyone else is fit."
