David De Gea looks set to be rewarded for his progress at Manchester United, and kept out of the clutches of Real Madrid, with a new contract.

Reports in Spain, emanating from respected journalist Roberto Bonafont who has close ties with De Gea, suggest the Spanish stopper is ready to agree a new £120,000-a-week deal.

The news will be a welcome boost for Manchester United amid speculation surrounding a possible move to Real Madrid. The Champions League holders are in the process of conducting the succession of Iker Casillas, whose form has been a cause for concern.

Since De Gea's switch from Atletico Madrid in 2011, the 23-year-old has gone from an uncertain presence between the sticks at Old Trafford to arguably the best goalkeeper in the Premier League.

Should the £120,000-a-week deal be completed, it will reportedly double his existing wages.
