Manchester United manager Louis van Gaal refused to discuss reports that goalkeeper David De Gea, who starred in the club's 3-0 win over Liverpool on Sunday, is to sign a lucrative new contract.

It had been reported that the Spaniard will agree a new £36.5m, five -year deal to stay at the club, with Real Madrid interested.

De Gea was the man of the match in United victory over Liverpool at the weekend, but afterwards Van Gaal refused to discuss any talk of a new contract for the player when questioned.

"That is between the club and the player and it is not open for discussion for the media," he said.

De Gea made a total of eight brilliant saves against Liverpool at Old Trafford, including three each from Raheem Sterling and Mari Balotellli.
