It will be a welcome boost for the Manchester United player who has struggled at Old Trafford following his £25m summer arrival.
The confident Dutchman has been labelled arrogant in recent weeks and was omitted from the Netherlands squad which was announced this week.
However, despite his troubles Depay was among five players named by Ronaldo as those with the potential to match his achievements in the game.
“You see many players with potential, I will mention [Martin] Odegaard of Madrid for example,” Ronaldo told BT Sport. “At 16 he’s still young but you can see he’s a very good player.
"[Eden] Hazard for example, the No.7 of Manchester, [Memphis] Depay is a good player too. [Also Paul] Pogba and maybe Neymar.”
Ironically, Depay wears the same shirt number at Manchester United as Ronaldo wore during his time at the club.
Ronaldo was speaking ahead of the release of a documentary about his life at Real Madrid.
