Chelsea’s win over Arsenal was worth “six points” to Antonio Conte’s side, according to goalscorer Marcos Alonso.

The wing-back put the Blues ahead at Stamford Bridge on Saturday afternoon, before Eden Hazard and Cesc Fabregas made it 3-0, only for Olivier Giroud to pull back a consolatory goal late on.

The victory opened up a 12-point gap between the London rivals, with Chelsea now nine clear at the top, with Tottenham in second and Manchester City a point further back in third.

Chelsea have only dropped 13 points this season and the significance of Saturday’s victory is not lost on Conte’s summer signing.

“We controlled the game for the 90 minutes. We’re a little bit disappointed with the goal we conceded but it was a very good performance from everyone," the Spaniard told Chelseafc.com.

“Now we need to keep our focus and concentration. We’re enjoying a good run. Three points against a direct opponent is like six points.”

Chelsea’s next opportunity to extend their lead at the top comes against Burnley at Turf Moor. The Clarets have a strong home record this season and Alonso wants to make sure he and his teammates don’t get carried away with their situation.

“We just need to go game by game. After this win, the result in midweek [1-1 draw vs Liverpool] is an even better point,” he added.

“We are working hard during the week and you can see that, we are giving everything on the pitch and getting results.”
